Biographical notes

The only two references found for this family are the records of the marriage of Thomas and Hannah in 1847 and a return in the 1851 Census where the family are living in Bury Cottage, Bramfield; Thomas Tillcock (35), Head, marr, Blacksmith [born] Herts Thundridge; Hannah Tillcock (36), Wife, marr Blacksmith Wife, [born] Malta; Louisa Tillcock (3), Daughter, unmarr, [born] Herts Bramfield; Eliza Tillcock (9m), [born] Herts Bramfield.

The birth of Louisa is listed in the BMD Hertford registers in the second quarter of 1848

The birth of Eliza appears to be listed in the BMD Hertford registers in the third quarter of 1848 under 'Female Tillcock'

No trace of Thomas and Hannah have been found in the 1861 or later census returns, but in the 1861 census, Louisa (13) and Eliza (10), without their parents, are boarders in Wades Mill Thundridge. Louisa's birthplace given as Stapleford whilst that of Eliza born in Bramfield. It looks as if Hannah died in Bramfield (Hertford reg district), soon after the Census was taken and that Thomas then returned with Louisa and Eliza to Wades Mill, Thundridge. This would explain why his death in 1852 was registered in in the Ware district (which includes Wades Mill), and why Louisa and Eliza are living as boarders at Wades Mill.

Louisa's death possibly recorded in the last quarter of 1868 (Ware district), aged 18.

In the 1871 Census Eliza (20) is still a boarder at the same address in Wades Mill [Thundridge] employed as a sempstress with a birth place of Bramfield. She has not been traced in subsequent census records.
