Internal floor length (to base of main door) 5,320mm -
Internal floor width 2,555mm (at window end) 2,570mm (at main door end)
Internal wall height (to base of sole plate) 2,370mm (adjacent to small door) 2,415mm (adjacent to light switch)
Internal wall height (to top of sole plate) 2,420mm (adjacent to small door) 2,465mm (adjacent to light switch)
Approx height from floor to base of ridge plate 3,460mm (adjacent to window) -
Approx height from floor to base of joists 2,735 to 2,770 -
Wall thickness 105mm + 20mm (external render) = 125mm -
Height from floor to base of window cavity. 945mm (door side) 934mm (wall side)
Height from floor to top of window cavity. 2,105mm (centre) -
Width x Depth of ridge plate (approx) 18mm 140mm
Width x Depth of wall sole plate 105mm 50mm
Width x depth of rafters 105mm 50mm
Width x depth of joists/wall ties 105mm 50mm
Width x height of small door 815mm (32 ⅛" or 2' 8⅛") 1,995mm (78.5" or 6' 6")

VESTIBULE & WORKSHOP DIMENSIONS

All measurements are approximate.

Vestibule dimensions (length x width) 1,810mm (5' 11 ¼"), length measured from brick of door frame (bikes will fit as they are less than 1,800 mm long). 2,560mm (8' 4 ¾") (average width).
Workshop dimensions (length x width) 3,217mm (10' 6 ¾") long. 2,459mm 8' 0 ¾" wide (within stud frame and OSB sheathing).
Workshop dimensions (height) 2,210mm (7' 3") high, from concrete floor to new plasterboard ceiling. Although the legal minimum ceiling height has now been removed from the Building Regulations, all rooms should normally have a floor to ceiling height of at least 2.1m (about 6' 11") throughout, (standard ceiling height is 2.4m).
Workshop, height from top of mezzanine floor to base of ridge plate. 5,23mm (3' 9"). -
Workshop, height from top of mezzanine floor to top of joist/roof tie. 547mm (1' 8 ½"). 413mm (1' 4 ¼") to bottom of joist/roof tie. -

PROJECT COMPONENT MEASUREMENTS

Partition studs (width x breadth) 95mm [100mm unfinished] 70mm [75mm unfinished]
Wall studs (width x breadth) 45mm [47mm unfinished size] 70mm [75mm unfinished size]
Wall stud fixings Wickes M6 x 90mm coach screws with 10mm diameter hexagonal head for spanner tightening. PC 510723. Note that M6 washers also needed for these. Wickes 10mm x 50mm nylon wall plugs. Use 10mm Masonry drill bit (Acceptable screw sizes 6mm - 8mm). PC 511065
Joists (width x breadth) 45mm [47mm unfinished] 144mm [150mm unfinished]
Plasterboard sheets, 12.5mm thickness (length x breadth). 4 boards required 2,400mm. Note that originally 7 boards measuring 1,800mm x 900mm were ordered and the larger sheets were delivered in error. 1,200mm
Flooring grade tongue & groove chipboard, 18mm thickness (length x breadth). 10 boards required. 2,400mm 600mm
Celotex TB4040 Insulation Board, 40mm thickness (length x breadth). 4 boards required. 2,400mm 1,200mm
Orientated Strand Board sheets, 18mm thickness (OSB Grade 3) (length x breadth). 11 boards required. 2,440mm 1,220mm

STUDWORK/JOIST/CEILING/FLOORING COMPONENT MEASUREMENTS

Window end wall stud dimensions Window End Wall Stud Dimensions

Drawing showing approximate dimensions of the wooden studwork components. Note that the concrete lintel at the top of the window prutrudes out from the wall at one end by about 20mm. This problem was solved by locating the top framing timber above the lintel (in line with the side wall top framing timber pieces), so that the rawplug fixings were made into the brick and not into the concrete lintel. The vertical framing timbers on each side of the window needed to be rebated to take account of the protrusion at each end.

New joists dimensions New Joists Dimensions

Drawing showing approximate dimensions of the wooden studwork components. Note that this includes batten supports for the three fluorescent light units and also incorporates anti twist strutting (to avoid the joists twisting when loaded), as building regs recommend.

Plasterboard ceiling dimensions Ceiling Plasterboard Dimensions

Drawing showing approximate dimensions of the plasterboard ceiling components. Each board, as purchased, measures 1200mm x 2400mm x 12.5mm. Note that the board end joints must coincide with the middle of an overlying supporting joist. Estimated number of boards required is 4.

Note that originally 7 boards of size 900mm x 1800mm x 12.5mm were ordered (much easier to handle), and the larger (heavier) boards were delivered in error.
